Acrylic paint procedures
Paint palette steps
- Have a palette with tape on two sides (to hold down lid).
- Attach a tape label with your first and last name.
- Your palette will be kept where you keep your sculpture.
- Using smaller container at the acrylic station and a palette knife, place your base color in center area. Refill smaller container as needed by using larger container.
- Your base color is the dominant color in your chosen color scheme (check your paper work)
- Always wipe the palette knife on the damp towel before using it with a different color!
- Place other needed colors in the smaller areas as needed.
- To lighten-use a small amount of color and more white
- To darken-use a small amount of black and more color
- Beware of Brown-start by mixing colors in a very small amount to make sure you are getting the color you want
- Once you are sure of your color ratios increase your amount
- Load the brush ONLY half way up the bristles to make sure you have good line quality
- Try a square brush for straight or geometric edges/shapes
- Try a round brush for organic or free flowing edges/shapes
- ALWAYS rinse your brush before dipping it into a different color
- Keep a damp towel at your table
- Keep a palette knife (four per table) at your table.
- Use the damp towel to wipe off the table, palette knife and fingers.
- Spritz your paint and secure the cover of your palette with tape.
- Place your project and palette in designated area.
- Wipe your table and palette knife with the damp towel
- Rinse your brush, show Mrs. Justis, put up brush.
- Check the acrylic paint station. Is there anything you can clean/organize?
