Visual Art is considered an academic elective because the course pathways lead to college
level Advanced Placement courses, offering students the opportunity to earn college course credit at participating institutions. The first course students must take is called Visual Art Comprehensive 1. This pre-requisite course establishes a standard and consistent foundation. Topics include, but are not limited to art as personal communication, the elements of art, principles of design, drawing, design, sculpture, aesthetics, careers, art criticism, and art history. After completion of Visual Art Comprehensive 1, students can choose from the following courses to continue their pathway of study. Most courses are semester long and have many levels. Advanced Placement courses are year long. course descriptionsDrawing & Painting 1-4- Learn to draw from

The Fine Arts Diploma Seal is awarded by the Georgia Department of Education. The
embossed gold seal is placed on the diploma and the student walks with a Fine Arts cord during the graduation ceremony. The goal of this seal is to produce students who are prepared for college and careers in these fine arts related creative industries. The diploma seal is a signal to employers and higher education institutions that a student is prepared to participate and/or continue education in the creative industries. Students who complete a Fine Arts pathway earn at least three full credits in their field of study along with a fourth creative industry or fine arts credit, participate in arts extracurriculars and community service, and complete a capstone project. If this interests you, please contact a Northview HS art teacher when you are enrolled in class. Planning and documentation are needed to complete the process.
